Lord of Mysteries Beyonder Substances Guide

Beyonder Substances slot into your Sealed Artifacts, and fusing them is how you build the affixes you actually want. This guide covers the star odds, the three affix grades, every mutated affix in the game — including the Fool, which switches off a Sealed Artifact's drawback entirely — and the fusion routes for chasing them.

What Are Beyonder Substances?

A Beyonder Substance item card showing its rating, affixes marked Fine and Common, and the substance grid alongside.

Beyonder Substances are stat-boosting pieces that slot into Sealed Artifact sockets, split into offensive and defensive substances. Offensive substances go into offensive or specialised sockets; defensive substances go into defensive or specialised sockets.

The number of rhombus marks in the lower right of a substance is how many affixes it carries. For convenience this guide calls that its star level — 1 rhombus = 1 star, 2 = 2 stars, and so on. A single substance never repeats the same affix twice.

Substances come in purple and gold quality. Purple cannot be fused, so turn on auto-decompose under Bag → Beyonder Substances (auto-decompose purple on pickup) to convert them straight into the materials fusion consumes.

Affixes themselves come in three grades: Common (凡), Fine (珍) and Rare (稀). Apart from 1-star substances, a substance whose affixes are all Fine gets an extra Fine marker on its icon; if one of its affixes is Rare, the icon is marked Rare instead.

Fusion

What Fusion Is

The fusion screen with two substance slots joined by a ring, and the one-click fusion and fuse buttons along the bottom.

Substances from activities and currency shops are only 1–2 stars, while the known maximum is 6 stars (six different affixes). Fusion combines two substances into one new one.

Do not press one-click fusion. The tutorial walks you into the fusion screen on day three, when you own very few substances — the author repeats this warning three times in the original, and the comments under it are full of players who pressed it before reading. There is no undo.

The fusion preview for two 1-star substances, showing a 20% chance to reach 2 stars and 80% to stay at 1 star.

Fusing two 1-star substances shows a 20% chance of going up to 2 stars and 80% of staying at 1. Any two substances of the same star level have the same 20% chance to rise.

The fusion preview for a 3-star and a 2-star substance, showing 40% to keep 3 stars and 60% to drop to 2.

Fusing a 3-star with a 2-star gives 40% to keep 3 stars and 60% to drop to 2.

Choosing the Result

The fusion result screen showing input one plus input two equals the result, with the recommended option highlighted and a confirm button.

Put in any two 1- or 2-star substances and spend Fusion Factors (聚合因子) and Soli. The result screen shows input 1 + input 2 = result, and you keep any one of the three — the other two are destroyed. The result's affixes are drawn at random from all of the inputs. As a rule, unless the result gained a star or landed a more sensible affix spread, keep whichever input was already better.

The High-Star Rule

To put a 4-star or higher substance into fusion you must also meet an extra condition: own two offensive substances at 4 stars or above and two defensive ones at 4 stars or above.

Fusion Proficiency

The fusion proficiency track with milestone rewards at intervals up to four thousand.

Fusing raises fusion proficiency, and passing each threshold grants extra rewards.

Affix Upgrades and Mutated Affixes

A fusion preview listing inherited affixes together with the mutated affixes that could be generated.

When the two input substances carry 6 or more affixes between them, the result has a chance to roll an affix upgrade — some affixes come out with higher values than the inputs had.

On the same condition, there is a very small chance of a mutated affix.

The author's Chinese table of all mutated affixes, split into offensive and defensive lists with their effects.

Offensive substances only roll offensive mutations, defensive only defensive. The full list in English:

Offensive Mutations

Mutated affixEffect
<Reaper>收割者 Strength / Intelligence up.

<Hypnotist>催眠师 Control accuracy up.
<Spirit Medium>通灵者 Penetration up.

<Hand of God>神明之手 Defence-breaking up, all skill levels +1.
<Calamity Incarnate>天灾化身 Critical up, all skill levels +1.
<The Fool>愚者 Damage amplification, all skill levels +1, and it disables the Sealed Artifact's drawback.

Defensive Mutations

<The Fool>愚者 Damage reduction, all skill levels +1, and it disables the Sealed Artifact's drawback.
A fusion preview whose possible mutated affixes include the Fool alongside the War Bishop and Fear Bishop.
  • At 6 or more affixes across the inputs: a very small chance of a gold-tier mutated affix. Which one appears is purely random and unrelated to the affixes you put in.
  • At 8 or more affixes: a very small chance of a gold or orange-tier mutated affix, again entirely random.
  • The Fool is the top-tier mutation, and it can only appear at all if you put in at least two 4-star substances.

Fusion Routes

Mutated affixes have high values and more than half of them carry a special effect — <The Fool> even nullifies a Sealed Artifact's drawback — but the odds are lottery-ticket low. So run two tracks at once: build one usable, high-quality 4-affix substance as your floor, ideally all Fine, and throw the Common-affix leftovers at the mutation lottery.

The simple principle: at 3 stars and below, fuse like with like. At 4 stars and above, prioritise raising stars and refine the odd Common affix away.

Low-Star Routes

1-star substances

1 Fine → safety pool · 1 Common → mutation pool

  • 1 Fine + 1 Fine → 1 Fine / 2 Fine. Goes to the safety pool.
  • 1 Common + 1 Common → 1 Common / 2 Common. Goes to the mutation pool.

2-star substances

2 Fine → safety pool · 1 Fine 1 Common → undecided · 2 Common → mutation pool

  • 2 Fine + 2 Fine → 2 Fine / 3 Fine. Goes to the safety pool.
  • 1 Fine 1 Common + 1 Fine 1 Common →
    • 2 Fine — safety pool.
    • 1 Fine 1 Common — still undecided.
    • 2 Common — mutation pool.

3-star substances

3 Fine and 2 Fine 1 Common count as the same class → safety pool · 1 Fine 2 Common and 3 Common count as the same class → mutation pool

  • 3 Fine + 3 Fine or 2 Fine 1 Common →
    • 4 Fine — floor secured.
    • 3 Fine 1 Common — near-floor; refine later.
    • 3 Fine — back to the safety pool.
    • A mutation — mutation hit. If a Common affix came with it, refine later.
  • 1 Fine 2 Common + 3 Common →
    • A mutation — mutation hit. However many affixes it has, as long as the mutation is usable, refine later.
    • 1 Fine 3 Common — into the Fool pool.
    • 4 Common — into the Fool pool.
    • 1 Fine 2 Common — back to the mutation pool.

4-Star and Above

Fuse your 4-star floor seed step by step with other 4-affix substances that are mostly Fine. If it fails, you keep the 4-star seed; when a good 5-star shows up, take it and make that your new floor seed. The same logic repeats upward.

Meanwhile, fuse the various 4-affix substances in your Fool pool against each other to chase <The Fool>. Once it lands, every other affix on that substance can be refined afterwards.

Refining Common Affixes Off High-Star Substances

For a high-star seed carrying a single Common affix, refine it using a basic 2 Fine substance. This cannot raise the star level, but it very likely preserves the current one while stripping the Common affix out.

The same applies to a substance that already has a mutated affix: keep feeding it low-star all-Fine substances to wash the Common affixes off, until every affix on it is genuinely usable.

Before You Use These Numbers

Everything above reflects the game on day three of China Open Beta, when the source guide was published on August 23, 2026. Star odds, the high-star gating rule, affix-count thresholds and the mutation list are all subject to balance patches, and the 6-star cap is what was known at the time rather than a confirmed ceiling. The routes are the author's approach, not a solved optimum.
